Therapeutic Chemistry and Pharmacognosy Unit

A teaching, research and consultancy unit focused on natural products, their phytochemistry, their pharmacology and their impact on the health systems of our countries and countries of the South.

The Therapeutic Chemistry and Pharmacognosy Unit is part of the UMONS Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy and the Institutes of Health and Biosciences. It provides theoretical and practical teaching in pharmacognosy, pharmacology, nutrition, pharmaco-chemistry, drug design, and bibliography. Active in the study of medicinal plants, the Unit has state-of-the-art analytical and semi-preparative chromatography equipment which enables it to develop research work with numerous European, Asian and developing country partners. Its expertise activities concern both quality (Belgian and European Pharmacopoeia Commissions) and the safety and efficacy of herbal products (Belgian Registration Commissions and the Committee on Herbal Medicinal Products of the European Medicines Agency).
