The main objective of this portfolio\u00a0<strong>is to develop devices and software to enable the delivery of services and meet needs in four areas: mobility, energy and the environment, transparent exchange of data, and the life and welfare of citizens<\/strong>. Wal-e-Cities develops technological and non-technological components, integrated\u00a0<strong>to use the technology wisely<\/strong>\u00a0and compare the results to\u00a0<strong>the users\u2019 specific needs<\/strong>\u00a0(citizens, municipal authorities, local businesses, etc.). The IDEES project portfolio aims to promote the implementation of this strategy in Wallonia. The first project concerns the technological foundations needed to achieve the desired progress. It builds on the considerable advances that have been made recently in these areas (<strong>cloud computing, big data and Internet of Things<\/strong>), and aims to improve them to enable companies to benefit from them. The second project aims to\u00a0<strong>implement co-innovation with companies to accelerate the adoption of these technologies and to optimise their value<\/strong>\u00a0in the sectors that use them. The third project\u00a0<strong>deploys pilot projects in specific sectors close to business clusters<\/strong>, to validate the contribution of these modern technologies in various configurations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n            \t<\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n                <div class=\"accordion-inner\">\n            <div class=\"accordion-bellow\">\n                <button class=\"accordion-bellow-toggle scheme-background-hover\" data-target=\"#accordion-content-668f7fcd453e1\">\n                    <span class=\"icon umons-icon-chevron-down\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/span> Geological Data Management and 3D geological Modelling (FWB\/ARC)                <\/button>\n            <\/div>\n            <div id=\"accordion-content-668f7fcd453e1\" class=\"accordion-content\">\n            \t<div class=\"inner editor-front\">\n            \t\t<p>A fundamental aspect in understanding data quality is data provenance, also known as data lineage. Studies have resulted in a number of general-purpose theoretical formalisms for dealing with data quality and provenance. The aim of this project is to tailor and extend these formalisms to the specific needs that emerge in geological data management and 3D geological modelling. 3D geological models typically extrapolate information from different heterogeneous geolocalised data sources, such as boreholes, geological maps, or seismic reflection surveys.<\/p>\n            \t<\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n                <div class=\"accordion-inner\">\n            <div class=\"accordion-bellow\">\n                <button class=\"accordion-bellow-toggle scheme-background-hover\" data-target=\"#accordion-content-668f7fcd45528\">\n                    <span class=\"icon umons-icon-chevron-down\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/span> COLORAMAP (ERC)                <\/button>\n            <\/div>\n            <div id=\"accordion-content-668f7fcd45528\" class=\"accordion-content\">\n            \t<div class=\"inner editor-front\">\n            \t\t<p>Low Rank Approximation<strong>\u00a0(LRA)<\/strong>\u00a0techniques, such as principal component analysis, are\u00a0<strong>powerful tools for the representation and analysis of large data<\/strong>, and are used in many domains, including machine learning, signal processing, data analysis, and optimisation.<\/p>\n<p>Without constraints, and using the lowest number of squares, LRA can be resolved by breaking data down into singular values. However, in practice, this model is\u00a0<strong>often inadequate<\/strong>\u00a0mainly because (i) some data is wrong or missing, or because of non-Gaussian noise, and (ii) the ways in which the data is broken down must satisfy certain constraints related to the application considered. The objective of this ERC project is to remove these issues, considering four different, but complementary, aspects: (1) algorithmic complexity, (2) algorithms with guaranteed success, (3) heuristics, and (4) applications.<\/p>\n            \t<\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n                <div class=\"accordion-inner\">\n            <div class=\"accordion-bellow\">\n                <button class=\"accordion-bellow-toggle scheme-background-hover\" data-target=\"#accordion-content-668f7fcd45678\">\n                    <span class=\"icon umons-icon-chevron-down\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/span> InOGRAM (RW\/Logistics in Wallonia)                <\/button>\n            <\/div>\n            <div id=\"accordion-content-668f7fcd45678\" class=\"accordion-content\">\n            \t<div class=\"inner editor-front\">\n            \t\t<p><strong>Railway operators<\/strong>\u00a0face competition from airlines and road users and must therefore\u00a0<strong>improve<\/strong>\u00a0the internationalisation of traffic and interoperability between operators and infrastructure. The ERTMS standards, developed for Europe to meet this need, have spread around the world, highlighting, on the one hand, a request for changes to new functionalities and, on the other hand, the risk of emergence of non-European competition in the sector.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-123 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/web.umons.ac.be\/app\/uploads\/sites\/34\/2017\/07\/P3291686-150x150.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.umons.ac.be\/app\/uploads\/sites\/34\/2017\/07\/P3291686-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/web.umons.ac.be\/app\/uploads\/sites\/34\/2017\/07\/P3291686-80x80.jpg 80w, https:\/\/web.umons.ac.be\/app\/uploads\/sites\/34\/2017\/07\/P3291686-400x400.jpg 400w, https:\/\/web.umons.ac.be\/app\/uploads\/sites\/34\/2017\/07\/P3291686-200x200.jpg 200w\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Inograms project<\/strong>\u00a0is an industrial research project that\u00a0<strong>explores new technological axes to meet the needs of the non-European market of the ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System) by developing new features and significantly reducing the cost needed to maintain competitive solutions developed in Wallonia.<\/strong><\/p>\n            \t<\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n                <div class=\"accordion-inner\">\n            <div class=\"accordion-bellow\">\n                <button class=\"accordion-bellow-toggle scheme-background-hover\" data-target=\"#accordion-content-668f7fcd457da\">\n                    <span class=\"icon umons-icon-chevron-down\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/span> ROAD-STEP (RW \/ DGO3)                <\/button>\n            <\/div>\n            <div id=\"accordion-content-668f7fcd457da\" class=\"accordion-content\">\n            \t<div class=\"inner editor-front\">\n            \t\t<p><strong><em>R<\/em><\/strong><em>\u00e9seau d\u2019<strong>O<\/strong>utils d\u2019<strong>Ai<\/strong>de \u00e0 la\u00a0<strong>D<\/strong>\u00e9cision \u2013\u00a0<strong>S<\/strong>urveillance des\u00a0<strong>T<\/strong>roupeaux\u00a0<strong>e<\/strong>n\u00a0<strong>P<\/strong>rairie.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The goal of Road-Step is to provide\u00a0<strong>regular, timely and remote monitoring of animal welfare<\/strong>.\u00a0<strong>IoT<\/strong>\u00a0technologies are used to study animal behaviour, growth and health. Decision-support tools based on\u00a0<strong>AI<\/strong>\u00a0methods allow the prediction of diseases within a herd of animals.<\/p>\n            \t<\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n                <div class=\"accordion-inner\">\n            <div class=\"accordion-bellow\">\n                <button class=\"accordion-bellow-toggle scheme-background-hover\" data-target=\"#accordion-content-668f7fcd45913\">\n                    <span class=\"icon umons-icon-chevron-down\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/span> FAB-IOT-LAB (EU RW \/ ERDF)                <\/button>\n            <\/div>\n            <div id=\"accordion-content-668f7fcd45913\" class=\"accordion-content\">\n            \t<div class=\"inner editor-front\">\n            \t\t<p>The Fab-IoT-Lab project has allowed\u00a0<strong>Fablab Mons\u00a0<\/strong>to have an axis specifically dedicated to the Internet of Things (IoT).
