Organology, genealogy and practice of the hexaphonic guitar: from the treatment of individual strings to instrumental gestural control

Summary :

« The hexaphonic guitar is an electric or electrified guitar with 6 strings and an individual sound pickup system for each of these strings. The set of 6 sensors form the hexaphonic microphone. This type of device allows, among other things, the control of a sound synthesizer by instrumental playing or the application of independent sound processing for each string. Despite the integration of these two uses in commercial products since the 1970s, they have experienced very different adoptions. The presentation will present the results of the thesis which a triple approach: organological, technical and analysis of guitar practices. This triple approach has been put in place to try to understand in detail why the use of hexaphonic sound processing has not, until now, been« 

 

  • This is a thesis defense in French (i.e. no internal + external defense, only one) so the duration will be between 3 and 4 hours. It will be possible to leave the room if you do not have enough time.
  • The presentation will be in French.
  • A valid health pass will be requested for those physically present.
