{"id":55,"date":"2022-03-17T23:05:55","date_gmt":"2022-03-17T22:05:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.umons.ac.be\/maia\/?p=55"},"modified":"2022-10-02T16:18:42","modified_gmt":"2022-10-02T14:18:42","slug":"ah_euc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.umons.ac.be\/maia\/en\/ah_euc\/","title":{"rendered":"MAIA Lab participated in the policy recommendations on the regulation of digital platforms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the context of <a href=\"https:\/\/futureu.europa.eu\/\">the Conference on the Future of Europe<\/a>, representatives from 38 European university alliances addressed some of the complex challenges that the EU faces today through the publication of policy recommendations to be shared with European decision-makers.<\/p>\n<p>Ahmad Hammoudeh, a representative of UMONS and EUNICE Alliance, took part in a conference that was held by the EUC in Strasbourg on March 3-4, 2022. The representatives discussed their position on 10 thematic challenges after a series of keynote speeches. Ahmad participated in the challenge titled \u00ab\u00a0how the EU can regulate digital platforms without limiting freedom of speech and the free exchange of thoughts\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>The onboarding session of the EUC initiative took place on 13\/1\/2022 with 271 participants from 28 European countries. The preparations for the conference included several meetings in February that aimed at designing solutions to issues related to the main topics defined by the European Commission for the Conference on the Future of Europe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA statement like the earth revolves around the sun deserved punishment in the past, let\u2019s hope not to see that again,\u201d Ahmad said after highlighting the growing violations and threats to the freedom of speech. Ahmad is an artificial intelligence researcher at <a href=\"https:\/\/web.umons.ac.be\/maia\/\">MAIA<\/a> Lab, <a href=\"https:\/\/web.umons.ac.be\/isia\">ISIA<\/a> Lab, and <a href=\"https:\/\/trail.ac\/\">TRAIL<\/a> Institute.
