Political Science Unit
Political sciences are a specific discipline of the human and social sciences that studies the relationship between society and power, the way power is accepted or contested by individuals, organisations, groups and social classes. It deals with ideas, currents, regimes, structures and political parties. In its international dimension, it analyses the relationship between states and regional or global organisations.
In dealing with these issues, the political sciences department is particularly interested in their underlying power dynamics. Research, here, far from being siloed as an autonomous field of enquiry, necessarily covers the fields of history and current issues as well as the spheres of socioeconomic relations, culture, law, philosophy and the analysis of ideologies.
The curriculum offered by the department within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences includes introduction to political sciences, history of political thought, contemporary history, political doctrines and regimes, political parties, political sociology, international relations and organisations.
