L\u2019\u00e9valuation objective (via des mesures acoustiques et articulatoires) de la production de parole pathologique est un champ de recherche en pleine expansion, en particulier en contexte francophone, et de nombreux d\u00e9fis sont \u00e0 relever.<\/p>\n<p>Dans une premi\u00e8re phase, le projet vise \u00e0 documenter les productions de parole d\u2019un grand nombre de patients dysarthriques belges francophones, hommes et femmes, aux profils diversifi\u00e9s en termes de type de dysarthrie et \u00e9tiologie associ\u00e9e (maladie de Parkinson, maladie de Wilson, maladie de Huntington, ataxie de Friedreich, scl\u00e9rose en plaques, scl\u00e9rose lat\u00e9rale amyotrophique, maladie de Kennedy, dysarthrie apr\u00e8s accident vasculaire c\u00e9r\u00e9bral ou traumatisme cr\u00e2nien) et de degr\u00e9 de s\u00e9v\u00e9rit\u00e9 de la dysarthrie (l\u00e9g\u00e8re, mod\u00e9r\u00e9e, s\u00e9v\u00e8re).<\/p>\n<p>Les enregistrements acoustiques concernent l\u2019ensemble des participants, qui seront invit\u00e9s \u00e0 produire les 8 modules du protocole MonPaGe 2.0.s (r\u00e9p\u00e9tition de pseudo-mots, t\u00e2che d\u2019intelligibilit\u00e9, module pneumo-phonatoire, lecture de texte, parole spontan\u00e9e, production de diadococin\u00e9sies verbales, de s\u00e9ries automatiques et de phrases aux contours prosodiques vari\u00e9s), auxquelles on adjoindra 3 modules compl\u00e9mentaires (visant plus particuli\u00e8rement les ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes de nasalit\u00e9, les glides, et les aptitudes en flexibilit\u00e9 phon\u00e9tique). Plusieurs sous-groupes de participants seront invit\u00e9s \u00e0 r\u00e9aliser certains des modules dans un cadre exp\u00e9rimental permettant de combiner les mesures acoustiques \u00e0 des mesures physiologiques afin d\u2019\u00e9tudier certains ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes sp\u00e9cifiques (acoustique et nasom\u00e9trie pour la nasalit\u00e9\u00a0; acoustique, \u00e9lectroglottographie et a\u00e9rodynamique pour la coordination entre les syst\u00e8mes laryng\u00e9 et supra-laryng\u00e9\u00a0; acoustique et imagerie par ultra-sons pour la pr\u00e9cision articulatoire\u00a0; acoustique et imagerie par nasofibroscopie et stroboscopie pour la qualit\u00e9 de voix).<\/p>\n<p>Les indices acoustiques extraits sont soit directement mesur\u00e9s sur le signal (p.ex. valeurs formantiques, de F0, d\u2019intensit\u00e9, etc.), soit issus de m\u00e9triques calcul\u00e9es \u00e0 partir de telles mesures (p.ex. plage de variation de l\u2019intensit\u00e9, taux de convergence phon\u00e9tique, rapport entre vitesse articulatoire et d\u00e9bit de parole). Ils permettront de caract\u00e9riser l\u2019ensemble des dimensions de la parole dysarthrique : fonctionnement laryng\u00e9 (mesures globales de qualit\u00e9 de la voix (CPPS, pente spectrale, HNR etc.), indicateurs d\u2019irr\u00e9gularit\u00e9s locales du cycle vibratoire (jitter, shimmer), comportement pneumo-phonatoire (y compris le contr\u00f4le de l\u2019intensit\u00e9), fluence (moyenne et variabilit\u00e9 de l\u2019\u00e9cart inter- syllabique), pr\u00e9cision articulatoire et coordination gestuelle (via notamment des mesures de contraste acoustique ou de quantification de la coarticulation), organisation du syst\u00e8me vocalique, flexibilit\u00e9 phon\u00e9tique. L\u2019analyse de ce large ensemble de donn\u00e9es, notamment l\u2019analyse des relations entre mesures acoustiques et articulatoires, visera \u00e0 r\u00e9duire les multiples mesures acoustiques \u00e0 un nombre plus restreint d\u2019indicateurs, fiables et robustes, pertinents pour la deuxi\u00e8me phase du projet. D\u2019autres analyses (ACP, ACM, r\u00e9seaux de sympt\u00f4mes) auront pour objectif de mod\u00e9liser les relations dynamiques entre les diff\u00e9rents sympt\u00f4mes, troubles et dysfonctionnements pr\u00e9sent\u00e9s par les patients dysarthriques (troubles moteurs de la parole; sympt\u00f4mes moteurs plus g\u00e9n\u00e9raux (tremblements, bradychin\u00e9sie, rigidit\u00e9 ; motricit\u00e9 bucco-linguo-faciale) ; difficult\u00e9s de sant\u00e9 mentale ; d\u00e9gradations de la qualit\u00e9 de vie ; difficult\u00e9s cognitives), afin notamment de d\u00e9terminer quels (jeux de) param\u00e8tres acoustiques en sont les meilleurs pr\u00e9dicteurs, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire les meilleurs candidats au titre de biomarqueurs vocaux de ces troubles.<\/p>\n<p>Dans une deuxi\u00e8me phase, le projet vise \u00e0 s\u2019appuyer sur les indicateurs acoustiques\/biomarqueurs vocaux ainsi isol\u00e9s afin de d\u00e9velopper (c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire concevoir, op\u00e9rationnaliser puis \u00e9valuer les qualit\u00e9s psychom\u00e9triques et enfin adapter) plusieurs outils d\u2019\u00e9valuation qui seront d\u00e9di\u00e9s \u00e0 rencontrer chacun un objectif plus pr\u00e9cis, d\u00e9fini soit en lien avec une question de recherche, soit avec un besoin identifi\u00e9 en clinique. Le premier objectif concerne les signes infracliniques de dysarthrie dans la maladie de Parkinson, et la possibilit\u00e9 d\u2019utiliser certains indices acoustiques tels des biomarqueurs vocaux afin d\u2019assister les cliniciens dans le diagnostic pr\u00e9coce de la maladie. Le second objectif est de contribuer au diagnostic diff\u00e9rentiel, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un outil d\u2019\u00e9valuation acoustique des productions de parole qui permette la distinction entre diff\u00e9rents sous-types de dysarthrie, ainsi qu\u2019entre dysarthrie et apraxie de la parole. Le troisi\u00e8me objectif clinique concerne la dynamique temporelle de la maladie, envisag\u00e9e du point de vue intra-individuel. Il s\u2019agit de proposer un outil qui soit adapt\u00e9 \u00e0 un suivi longitudinal du patient dysarthrique, une fois le diagnostic pos\u00e9. Le quatri\u00e8me objectif s\u2019int\u00e8gre \u00e0 une question de recherche fondamentale, celle de la caract\u00e9risation de l\u2019\u00e9volution des dysarthries en fonction du degr\u00e9 de s\u00e9v\u00e9rit\u00e9 dans le contexte de l\u2019hypoth\u00e8se de la r\u00e9trogen\u00e8se. Le cinqui\u00e8me objectif concerne l\u2019intelligibilit\u00e9. Il s\u2019agit de produire un outil permettant d\u2019\u00e9valuer l\u2019intelligibilit\u00e9 de la parole dysarthrique, qui pourra \u00eatre utilis\u00e9 dans des travaux ult\u00e9rieurs concernant le lien entre intelligibilit\u00e9, efficience communicationnelle et qualit\u00e9 de vie chez les patients dysarthriques.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>(English version below)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>_____________________________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p>Metrology and Language Sciences Department, Phonetics Laboratory, Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, UMONS, Belgium<\/p>\n<p>_____________________________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p>The Metrology and Language Sciences Department (web.umons.ac.be\/smsl\/) of the University of Mons is seeking one candidate for a <strong>full-time postdoctoral research grant <\/strong><strong>in speech sciences (data processing)<\/strong><strong>,<\/strong> with the desired starting date set for <strong>1 October 2026<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #009ee0;\"><u>Candidate profile<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Candidates must meet the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>hold a PhD obtained no more than six years ago;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>hold a PhD in language sciences, speech sciences, phonetics, linguistics, computational linguistics, speech and language therapy, digital medicine with a neurology or ENT orientation, or computer science applied to speech processing, or any field considered equivalent;<\/li>\n<li>have solid skills in data processing, particularly in statistical analysis, machine learning, deep learning and programming: Matlab, Python, R;<\/li>\n<li>experience with tools and software commonly used for speech processing is an asset: WebMAUS, Whisper, Praat, etc.;<\/li>\n<li>have an excellent command of scientific English, both oral and written;<\/li>\n<li>have sufficient command of French;<\/li>\n<li>demonstrate good teamwork skills, creativity, autonomy, rigour and scientific curiosity;<\/li>\n<li>experience or knowledge in the field of language, voice and speech disorders is an additional asset.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #009ee0;\"><u>Job description<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The person recruited will contribute to the ARC EvalDY project described in the appendix, in particular to the phase of data analysis and modelling with a view to developing assessment tools.<\/p>\n<p>Part of the working time may be carried out remotely, in the form of teleworking. The objective assessment (via acoustic and articulatory measurements) of pathological speech production is a rapidly expanding field of research, particularly in the French-speaking world, and there are many challenges to be met.<\/p>\n<p>In the first phase, the project aims to document the speech production of a large number of French-speaking Belgian dysarthric patients, both men and women, with diverse profiles in terms of the type of dysarthria and associated aetiology (Parkinson&rsquo;s disease, Wilson&rsquo;s disease, Huntington&rsquo;s disease, Friedreich&rsquo;s ataxia, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Kennedy&rsquo;s disease, dysarthria after stroke or head trauma) and the degree of severity of the dysarthria (mild, moderate, severe).<\/p>\n<p>The acoustic recordings concern all the participants, who will be asked to produce the 8 modules of the MonPaGe 2.0.s protocol (repetition of pseudowords, intelligibility task, pneumo-phonatory module, reading of text, spontaneous speech, production of verbal diadocokinesis, automatic series and sentences with varied prosodic contours), to which 3 additional modules will be added (specifically targeting nasal phenomena, glides and phonetic flexibility skills). Several sub-groups of participants will be invited to carry out some of the modules in an experimental setting that will enable acoustic measurements to be combined with physiological measurements in order to study certain specific phenomena (acoustics and nasometry for nasality; acoustics, electroglottography and aerodynamics for coordination between the laryngeal and supra-laryngeal systems; acoustics and ultrasound imaging for articulatory precision; acoustics and imaging by nasofibroscopy and stroboscopy for voice quality).<\/p>\n<p>The extracted acoustic indices are either measured directly from the signal (e.g., formant values, F0, intensity, etc.) or derived from metrics calculated based on such measurements (e.g., intensity variation range, phonetic convergence rate, ratio of articulation speed to speech rate). They will enable the characterization of all dimensions of dysarthric speech: laryngeal function (overall measures of voice quality (CPPS, spectral slope, HNR, etc.), indicators of local irregularities in the vibrational cycle (jitter, shimmer), pneumo-phonatory behavior (including intensity control), fluency (mean and variability of the inter-syllabic gap), articulatory precision and motor coordination (notably via measures of acoustic contrast or quantification of coarticulation), vowel system organization, and phonetic flexibility.<\/p>\n<p>The analysis of this large dataset\u2014particularly the analysis of the relationships between acoustic and articulatory measures\u2014will aim to reduce the numerous acoustic measures to a smaller set of reliable, robust indicators relevant to the second phase of the project. Other analyses (PCA, MCA, symptom networks) will aim to model the dynamic relationships between the various symptoms, disorders, and dysfunctions presented by patients with dysarthria (motor speech disorders; more general motor symptoms (tremors, bradykinesia, rigidity; orofacial motor function); mental health difficulties; reduced quality of life; cognitive difficulties), in particular to determine which acoustic parameters (or sets of parameters) are the best predictors of these conditions\u2014that is, the best candidates for serving as vocal biomarkers for these disorders.<\/p>\n<p>In a second phase, the project aims to use the acoustic indicators thus isolated to develop (i.e. design, operationalise, then assess the psychometric qualities and finally adapt) several assessment tools, each of which will be dedicated to meeting a more precise objective, defined either in relation to a research question or to a need identified in clinical practice.<\/p>\n<p>The first objective concerns the sub-clinical signs of dysarthria in Parkinson&rsquo;s disease, and the possibility of using certain acoustic indices such as vocal biomarkers to assist clinicians in the early diagnosis of the disease. The second objective is to contribute to differential diagnosis, using a tool for acoustic assessment of speech production to distinguish between different subtypes of dysarthria, as well as between dysarthria and apraxia of speech. The third clinical objective concerns the temporal dynamics of the disease, viewed from an intra-individual perspective. The aim is to propose a tool that is suitable for longitudinal monitoring of dysarthric patients, once the diagnosis has been made. The fourth objective relates to a fundamental research question, that of characterising the evolution of dysarthria as a function of the degree of severity in the context of the retrogenesis hypothesis. The fifth objective concerns intelligibility.
