Urban Planning and Adaptation
Climate change, social and environmental inequalities, the collapse of biodiversity, resource depletion and land artificialisation are major global challenges that require a responsive approach; this context provides a powerful lever for innovative architectural design. The department takes a keen interest in the changes currently affecting our societies and questions their ability to adapt to all types of risks and crises. The aim of the U+A department is to make the concept of resilience operational in a context of awareness for profound transformation.
We believe that a resilient approach is essential in order to anticipate and propose a vision of adaptation to the many challenges of the 21st century, such as the gradual reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and the limitation of global warming.
The lack of anticipation that we are currently experiencing will lead to the need to integrate the concept of adaptation. Mitigation is not enough, and adaptation is becoming necessary.
This approach raises awareness that every human activity has an impact on the land and the environment. Projects are enriched by reflection on the relationship between the city and nature, the environment and the cycles of life.
These risks and constraints offer new opportunities for architectural strategy, a field of possibilities for design that is no longer static but evolutionary.
The projects, which are as open as possible, are responses to the challenges of transition and enable us to move towards a resilient city.
Our challenge is to imagine and plan high-quality spaces where architecture, urban planning, territory, environment and society become one. To achieve this, only a global vision can offer us successful architecture for new uses and better living together.
