The Research Project "Dynamics of shift operators and related operators" funded by the F.R.S-FNRS commenced on 1st January 2026.

In this sunny month of July, nearly 40 researchers of all ages gathered in Mons around a shared passion: Functional Analysis.

After brilliantly defending his thesis in July 2023 under the supervision of Alfred Peris and Sophie Grivaux, Antoni López-Martínez, a young Spanish mathematician, secured, a year later and in quick succession, a position of FNRS Postdoctoral Researcher in our research unit and a permanent position at the Polytechnic University of Valencia in Spain.

The Functional Analysis Unit is now established. This unit enjoys a dual legacy: that of the Probability and Statistics Unit previously led by Karl Grosse-Erdmann and that of the Mathematical Analysis Unit previously directed by Catherine Finet.

Linear Dynamics is a relatively young field of research that has experienced remarkable growth over the past three decades. It was therefore the perfect time to bring together several experts in this field at Oberwolfach for a week of exchanges and collaborations.

Fernando Vieira Costa Jr, who joined our department in October 2023, will not have needed his three years of postdoctoral experience with us to secure a permanent position.

After completing a postdoctoral fellowship in Mons from 2022 to 2023 under the supervision of Quentin Menet, we are pleased to inform you that Dimitrios Papathanasiou has secured a position as Professor at Sabanci University in Istanbul (Turkey).

Fernando Vieira Costa Jr will join our research unit on 1st October 2023 as a F.R.S-FNRS Postdoctoral Researcher.
