1st Cycle: Bachelor’s degree in Teaching

Since the introduction of the Initial Teacher Training Reform in September 2023, training to become a pre-school and primary school teacher, as well as to become a lower secondary school teacher (AESI), has been spread over four years: a 3-year Bachelor’s degree (180 credits) followed by a 1-year Master’s degree (60 credits). The programmes are organised as joint degrees between higher education institutions and universities.

There are several sections, each allowing teachers to teach at a specific level:

• Section 1: Teaching from the 1st year of infants school to the 2nd year of primary school
• Section 2: Teaching from the 3rd year of infants school to the 6th year of primary school
• Section 3: Teaching from the 5th ^{year of primary school to the 3rd year of secondary school}
