Research activities

On the scientific side, two main research areas are currently being addressed by the department:

  • Microeconometric approach to different problems in labour and personnel economics
  • Qualitative approach to human resource management practices

As regards the microeconometric approach, the topics analysed so far concern the influence of human resource management practices (wage practices, training, employment contracts, workforce education, corporate social responsibility practices) on performance variables (productivity, absenteeism, wages, employment, employment dynamics) of firms.

In the qualitative approach, the critical approach of the discourses on human resources management practices in companies and the logics of action and change processes in companies are analysed. Research is also conducted to analyse the impact of corporate social responsibility on the roles and practices of the HR function.
