The group “Physics of the Universe, Fields and Gravitation” at UMONS invites applications for a postdoctoral position funded by the ERC Starting Grant “The Celestial Road to a Holographic Description of Black Holes”, under the direction of Laura Donnay.

The faculty members at UMONS include Nicolas Boulanger, Andrea Campoleoni, Laura Donnay, Maxim Grigoriev and Evgeny Skvortsov. Research activities of the unit cover a wide range of topics in the theoretical Physics of fundamental interactions: Quantum Field Theory, String Theory and Gravitational Physics. See https://web.umons.ac.be/pucg/en/home/ for more information on the unit research activities.

The position is a full-time 2-year appointment, starting in the Fall 2026. The candidate is expected to have a PhD in theoretical physics and a solid background in quantum field theory, mathematical physics and general relativity, and be interested in carrying out research in black hole physics, flat space (celestial/Carrollian) holography, and related topics. The position offers a competitive salary, along with support for travel and visitors, and the possibility to organize scientific events within the group.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic research environment, with numerous opportunities for interaction with nearby universities in the Belgian network: the Theoretical and Mathematical Physics group at ULB in Brussels (https://ptm.ulb.be/), and the groups of High-Energy Theoretical Physics of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (https://hep.research.vub.be/), KU Leuven (https://fys.kuleuven.be/itf/groups/hep) and the University of Gent (https://hepth.ugent.be/).

Candidates interested in the position are invited to apply via the Joint European Postdoc Application in Theoretical High Energy Physics:

https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/application/30903

indicating UMONS among the preferred institutions.

Applications should include CV, research statement, list of publications, and three letters of recommendation. To obtain full consideration, applications should be received by December, 17 2025.
