In this paper, we assess whether the helicity of peptoids in solution can be probed by ion mobility mass spectrometry. We demonstrate with the help of theoretical modelling that peptoids actually adopt a loop-like geometry in the gas phase even though the measured collision cross sections are very similar to those expected for helices. We also demonstrate that extended objects such as helices have their B parameter tending towards 1 as their length increases.
