University Certificate in Artificial Intelligence (Hands on AI)

After initiating the Mons AI Meetups in 2017, various Teaching and Research departments of the Polytechnic Faculty and the Faculty of Sciences, supported by the UMONS Numediart and InforTech Research Institutes, offer an Artificial Intelligence University Certificate (Hands on AI) consisting of a 5-credit teaching module delivered in the evening and a 5-credit “workshop” type module delivered over a weekend.

Artificial Intelligence (AI), and in particular Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Neural Nets (DNN), is experiencing considerable enthusiasm and success in a large number of application areas. Let us mention aeronautics, transport, health, finance, IT.

Access conditions

Prerequisites

In order to make the most of this training, it is necessary to master the basics of computer programming through the mastery of an advanced programming language, if possible Python; if not we suggest the following online Python training: https://learn.datacamp.com/courses/intro-to-python-for-data-science – take at least Chapter 1 “Python Basics”, which is free.

Terms of Access

Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in engineering sciences and technology, in science or equivalent (on file).

Target audience

Adults resuming studies (Technical staff in need of training, engineers, computer science graduates), PhD students, Postdocs

AI CHALLENGES (4 ECTS)

•  Challenge 1: Explainable AI for image classification and object localization, Prof. Sidi Ahmed Mahmoudi, October 13, 20, 27, 2022

•  Challenge 2: Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language, Prof. Stéphane Dupont November 10, 17, 24, 2022

•  Challenge 3: AI for time series analysis and forecasting, Prof. Souhaib Ben Taieb, December 8, 15, 22, 2022

Three application challenges from applicants in various fields will be proposed.
Introductory sessions and initiation to AI frameworks (T. Dutoit and Sidi Mahmoudi): October 6, 2022
Per challenge: 3 hours of lessons, 6 hours of practical work in coworking mode and 3 hours of personal project
Total: 9 hours of lessons, 18 hours of practical work (coworking sessions) and 9 hours of project

 

AI SEMINARS (1 ECTS)

Six inspiring seminars involving AI experts to reflect on its implications in diverse fields. The 6 seminars will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the following dates: October 18, October 25, November 8, November 15, November 22, November 29.

AI WORKSHOP (5 ECTS)

A green weekend (first quarter of 2023) between all the participants registered for the university certificate, focused on teamwork for the realization of an ambitious AI project. Participants will be supervised by both technical coaches and project management / design thinking coaches.
