Loïc Ducarne, former researcher of the Department, awarded by GBEE
During the 2022 Technical Day of the GBEE (Groupement Belge de l’énergie explosive, aka Belgian explosive energy group), Loïc Ducarne awarded the GBEE prize for his doctoral thesis entitled “Evaluation and assessment of ground vibrations caused by quarry blasts” defended in December 2020. His work focused on understanding the vibratoion phenomena generated by quarry blasts and their effect on the built environment (including the effect on Humans). A predictive model was developed during this work. Note that the doctoral thesis performed through the BlaVib (Blast & Vibrations) project, was financed by an ARC (Action de Recherche Concertée) call and by the RISQUES Institute of UMONS. Three units – Theoretical Mechanics, Dynamic and Vibrations Unit, Geology and Applied Geology Unit and Mining Engineering Unit – have actively collaborated together in the BlaVib project.
