Infortech Day 2026: an overview of UMONS research in information technology and computer science
The UMONS Infortech Institute brings together expertise in technologies used to detect, format, transmit, store, analyse and exploit data and signals, whatever their volume or mode of collection. Each year, Infortech Day offers an overview of ongoing research and gives an important platform to PhD candidates, who present the progress of their work to the Institute’s scientific community.
The 2026 edition highlighted several research areas representative of the work carried out at UMONS, including AI-based automatic signal classification, graph theory, non-negative matrix factorisation, complex data analysis and digital tools for scientific discovery. These presentations illustrated the variety of approaches developed within the Institute, spanning theoretical computer science, applied mathematics, artificial intelligence and data science.
Research, applications and valorisation
The day also featured a talk by Arnaud Bougaham, Research Scientist and AI Engineer at AISIN Europe, on AI-based anomaly detection for Industry 4.0 and MedTech applications. His presentation opened up discussions on the links between academic research, industrial needs and real-world applications.
Sandrine Brognaux, ICT Scientific Adviser within the UMONS Research Valorisation Office, also gave a presentation on identifying research results, technology transfer and the valorisation of research conducted at UMONS. Her contribution highlighted the importance of identifying, throughout the research process, results, methods and know-how that may open up new opportunities for collaboration or further development.
