Materials Science Unit

The Materials Science Department (SdM) of the UMONS Polytechnic Faculty is in charge of teaching general chemistry, physical chemistry, general knowledge and physics of materials (structures, properties, characterisation), production of ceramics, glasses and cement, study and synthesis of materials at the nanometric scale, electrochemical methods (especially for surface characterisation), etc. In connection with these courses, the research aims at concrete applications in many fields such as corrosion protection of metals, technical ceramics, chemical sensors and (photo)catalysts. The laboratory is part of the Materials Institute and most of the research is carried out in synergy with the MATERIA NOVA and BCRC-INISMa research centres in Mons.
