In this work, we probed the gas phase structure of alkylamines/Ag+ complexes by ion mobility mass spectrometry and tandem mass spectrometry with the support of DFT-level calculations. We identified a silver-induced folding of the alkylamine chains leading to the formation of bidentate complexes for longer chains. These bidentate complexes are observed to unfold upon loss of silver hydride by CID experiments.
