The Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences of the University of Mons welcomed its first students in October 1973. There are already numerous doctors, chemists and biomedical scientists that can testify to the rigorous humanistic education given at the “Plaine de Nimy” campus.
The Faculty’s teacher-researchers, whether mathematicians, physicists, chemists, biochemists, biologists, pharmacists or physicians, also bolster to our training offer, further ensuring that high quality education is delivered to all. Optimal supervision, a good balance between the number of students and the teaching spaces, and accessibility to the research services integrated into the Faculty infrastructure all contribute to this fact.
The Faculty has always prioritised teaching which feeds, as it should in an academic institution, the products of fundamental and multidisciplinary scientific research.
Our research teams work with the most modern instruments in the field. The recognition of the quality of their work is reflected by numerous national and international collaborations.
The Faculty fully justifies its membership in a university that, with ever increasing success, maintains a human dimension while combining modernity, proximity, international influence, and tradition in the heart of Hainaut.

An important asset is the close teaching environment that you can find here. The University of Mons is like a second home to me.I have chosen a career as an oncology researcher, and decided to study at the University of Mons because of its proximity to my hometown. However, this wasn’t the only reason for my choice. Here I have found the perfect balance between my choice of education, the accessibility of the teachers, a great environment to study, and fully equipped science labs. New arrivals are well supported here! An important asset is the close teaching environment that you can find here. The University of Mons is like a second home to me. Students here are not just a number. The teachers even refer to us by our first names. I have taken part in all of the University’s Open Days since my second year of Bachelor, and I still stand by what I said to visitors there: “if you are motivated by what you are studying, UMONS offers good quality education and teams of pleasant teachers and support staff who are there to support you throughout your studies!

I chose to study in Mons for its location, but also because of how well the students are supported throughout the year by the institution. It’s a university which is accessible to everyone who has the will to succeed! Everything is in place so that every student can pass their academic year. During the year there are remedial activities in maths and chemistry, and there are exam preparation sessions just before study leave. The teachers are also very accessible and are there to answer your questions if you are having difficulties. Students can also request complementary sessions if they are still having difficulties, and the assistants will work more hours to allow this to happen. To conclude, I would say that UMONS gives its students a great level of education and offers a great deal of support thanks to the excellent secretarial staff!

An important asset is the close teaching environment that you can find here. The University of Mons is like a second home to me.I have always been passionate about science, particularly biology and medicine. Since my teenage years, I have wanted to contribute to advances in scientific research, and that is why I chose to study biomedical science. My decision to study at UMONS was influenced by the fact that it is known for its excellent relationships between the teachers, assistants and students! The academic staff are available to help us with our studies. We are not merely a number on a list. The teachers really know us, give us customised help for our problems and push us to persevere with our work. Another bonus for studying at UMONS is the fact that I can continue my studies to Master level, so this was also a factor in my decision for coming here. It is possible to do your Master’s dissertation in one of the research units at the Faculty, meaning that you can work on a specific research project with the teachers, and that there are many subjects to choose from, depending on your interests within the field of biomedical science. Mons has become my second home, thanks to the campus, which brings together the students from the different faculties, and the dynamic and friendly town!
