Philippe Dubois is a full professor at the University of Mons, where he has been working since 1997. Before being elected Rector of UMONS and Chairman of its Board of Directors, he directed the Laboratory of Polymeric and Composite Materials at the Centre of Innovation and Research in Materials & Polymers (CIRMAP). His research covers catalysis, macromolecular chemistry and engineering of polymeric and (nano-)composite materials, including bio-sourced materials. Since the creation of the accredited Materia Nova research centre, he has assumed the role of Scientific Director and has recently co-chaired the Board of Directors. He has published more than 700 peer-reviewed scientific articles (H-index = 95, number of citations = +44,000) and holds 70 patents, nearly a quarter of which led to the industrialisation of products/processes and the creation of the spin-off NANO4 SA, of which he is currently Chairman of the Board. He is a visiting professor at various international universities, including Zhejiang University in China, and Michigan State University in the USA. Prof. Dubois is a member of the Royal Academy of Belgium (science class) and the European Academy of Sciences (Engineering division).
Besides his scientific involvement, Philippe Dubois is also heavily invested in his university. He was Director of the Chemistry Department (2003-2007), Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Science (2002-2005), Director-Co-Founder of CIRMAP (2007-2016), and co-chair of the Research Institute for Science and Material Engineering (2012-2016). In terms of research management at the university, he was Advisor to the Rector between 2006 and 2009, before assuming the position of Vice Rector for Research until September 2016.
