EUNICE | Who We Are
EUNICE is a European University that aims to be innovative, committed, open and multicultural – a new kind of inter-university campus, strengthening its coherence every day both through initiatives at territorial level and through an intensive strategy of remote interconnections. The members of the 10 university communities (students, teachers, researchers and administrative staff) remain linked to their home universities but are increasingly benefiting from the effects of the development of cross-ecosystem interactions between the EUNICE member institutions and their partners (civil society players, etc.). The existing synergies between the institutions have been strengthened by the creation of an International Non-Profit Association (AISBL) under Belgian law, making the Alliance a legal entity. UMONS will also hold the first presidency of the EUNICE European University until November 2024.
In July 2020, the University of Mons, along with six other higher education institutions, joined the new alliance of European universities known as EUNICE. In doing so, the seven founding members signalled their determination to join the new European Universities Initiative, which is being promoted by the European Commission with the aim of building a genuine European area of research and education.
EUNICE, which stands for European University for Customised Education, now brings together 10 universities across Europe : Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU)–Germany, Politechnika Poznanska (PUT)–Poland, Universidad de Cantabria (UC)–Spain, Université de Mons (UMONS)–Belgium, Università di Catania (UNICT)–Italy, Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France (UPHF)–France, University of Vaasa (UVA)–Finland, as well as the Instituto Politécnico de Viseu (IPV)-Portugal, Karlstad University (KAU)-Sweden, and the University of the Peloponnese (UoP)-Greece, three new members joining the alliance. These 10 universities all share a common DNA: they are human in scale, have a strong regional base, are keen to consolidate their international profile and place their students at the heart of their concerns.
