Teacher Training

  • The Agrégation de l’Enseignement Secondaire Supérieur (AESS), corresponding to a 30 ECTS training programme to be taken after a Master’s degree.
  • The Certificat d’Aptitude Pédagogique Approprié à l’Enseignement supérieur (CAPAES) is compulsory for teachers working at an Haute École or a social promotion higher education establishment.
You will need to go to the Registration Office in Mons or Charleroi between 21st June and 30th September with the AESS registration form (completed, dated and signed) and all the following documents:
  • your identity card
  • your birth certificate;
  • the qualification giving you access to the course:
    • either a copy of the certificate, diploma or attestation bearing the title justifying access to the AESS. If, at the time of registration, you do not yet hold this certificate, diploma or attestation, you may produce a copy of the provisional form of this title. You are required to submit the definitive form to the Registration Office as soon as you receive it, and no later than the end of the academic year;
    • or the equivalence decision giving access to the AESS if your diploma is not Belgian.
  • Proof of your activity in the ten years prior to registration, i.e.:
    • official school certificate (stating pass or fail)
    • absence of debt to any FWB institution (official attestation confirming absence of debt to your last higher education institution in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation is required for studies starting in 2014-2015)
      • transcripts for each year, showing your annual programme credits and credits earned;
      • an official certificate of employment;
      • an official certificate of unemployment;
      • official proof of stay abroad, including departure and return dates;
      • an official certificate justifying a medical condition;
      • or any other official document justifying your background.
If you do not have any supporting documents, you must provide a declaration on your honour, for each year concerned, that you did not pursue higher education in Belgium or abroad, specifying the reason why you are unable to provide supporting documents. Please note
  1. students registered at the end of a Master's cycle of at least 120 credits at an establishment in the French Community, who have registered all the credits required for graduation in their annual programme, may register simultaneously at the same establishment. However, they may not be declared graduates until they have obtained the necessary academic Master's degree.
  2. No one may be admitted to studies leading to the title of agrégé de l'enseignement secondaire supérieur (AESS) without having first demonstrated a thorough command of the French language. For further information, click here *
Non-financeable students will not be allowed to register without prior authorisation from the Dean of the faculty or school concerned. See the procedure*

The procedure is identical to that for registering for the AESS, but on the day of registration you must also provide proof that you are enrolled in an Haute Ecole for the current academic year (attestation from the Haute Ecole). The CAPAES registration form is available here (in French).
