Department of Information and Communication

The Information and Communication Department develops teaching and research activities focused on the analysis of media, journalism, and contemporary communication practices.

Its members contribute primarily to the Bachelor’s Degree in Human and Social Sciences, where they teach courses in communication, journalism, and media studies.

Research Areas

The department’s research activities focus on several areas related to transformations in the media and journalism sectors:

  • Professional identities, career paths, and working conditions in journalism
  • Developments in the media sector and media organisations
  • Transformations, innovations, and continuities in journalistic practices

The department also supervises several doctoral theses and actively participates in scientific collaborations.

Research Connected to Professional Practice

The department is closely associated with the Laboratory for Journalistic Practices and Identities (LaPIJ), an inter-university research centre (ULB–UMONS) dedicated to the analysis of transformations in journalism and information professions.

It also develops collaborations with various institutional partners and stakeholders in the Belgian media sector.

Team

The department brings together professors, lecturers, researchers, teaching assistants, and doctoral researchers engaged in the study of media and contemporary communication practices.
