Mathematical modeling and control of anaerobic digestion
Anaerobic digestion is an important biological treatment process of organic wastes which allows producing biogas.
This biogas can in turn be exploited to generate heat and/or electricity. Anaerobic digestion is an essential component in industrial process sustainability and has many applications. In recent years, we have developed research around several topics:
- information content of the hydrogen concentration in the biogas analysis to help monitoring the process
- development of a neural network-based monitoring system for a complex anaerobic digestion process treating beer manufacturing effluents
- mathematical modeling and estimation of phage treatment against foaming caused by filamentous bacteria
- start-up procedures, state estimation and extremum seeking control of anaerobic digestion processes
