Titre : Addressing Privacy in Consumer Internet of Things

Présenté par Shirin Kalantari, chercheuse en 4ème année de thèse à KU Leuven.

Abstract :  In this talk, I’ll share insights from my four-year PhD journey focusing on privacy research in Consumer Internet of Things (CIoT) devices. As these devices become more prevalent in our homes, they bring a plethora of privacy and security risks. From individual device hacks to large-scale cyber-attacks, the dangers posed by insecure CIoT nodes are significant. At the same time, conducting privacy research within CIoT is hindered by unique challenges inherent to these devices. In contrast to the structured environments of web and mobile platforms, which have been the primary focus of previous privacy research, the CIoT landscape encompasses devices with diverse capabilities, communication protocols, and architectures. During this presentation, I will: (1) outline the distinctive challenges of privacy research in CIoT and highlight notable studies in the field, and (2) discuss my own contributions to the field and my ongoing and future research plans for conducting research in this field.
